In a previous post I covered how to configure a RAID mirror on an Orange Pi Zero 3. In this guide I used the Orange Pi Zero 3 to demonstrate how to set up a RAID Mirror. However, since the post it has been brought to my attention that this is generally considered a bad idea. In light of this information, I would like to make sure that everyone is aware of the potential risks associated with a setup like I mentioned in that post and offer a better solution for those with a bigger budget.

Today I will walk you through getting Open Media Vault installed on an Orange Pi Zero 3 and configuring it for a RAID 1 Mirror. However, keep in mind that this setup will have some limitations. For example, the drives you attach will be limited to USB 2.0 speeds. For this reason, it is not recommended to buy expensive drives in search for better performance.

In this blog post, I'll share my experiences with two of my favorite SBCs: the Orange Pi 5 and the Orange Pi Zero 3. I'll also discuss how these tiny powerhouses have enabled me to complete coursework, enhance my homelab, and why I'm excited to expand my setup further.

While I was in school, there was an interesting device I had discovered that allowed for keystroke injections. While this sounds dangerous, and it can be in the wrong hands, what piqued my curiosity about the device was that it would allow me to automate tasks even though I had little to no experience in scripting at the time. I set out to purchase the device known as the Rubber Ducky, and within short while after receiving had written a script that would back up specific folders to a USB drive.

Helpdesk is the starting point for a lot of people's journeys into the colossal, always overwhelming world of technology. Exciting and terrifying have never been better married together in this odyssey from a college dropout to entering the battlefield of start-up help desks. But what if you feel in your heart of hearts that you don’t have what it takes? What if while your co-workers get promoted, you get left in the dust, feeding into the inescapable abyss of darkness and anxiety you call a mind? This isn’t a self-help piece. I don’t have the answers. I’m just a twenty-four-year-old struggling at the bottom of the tech world.

A question I commonly get asked is what certifications to go for or what kinds of projects someone should undertake. Unfortunately, there is no one golden rule that says if you do x then you are guaranteed a job. However, there are tools that exist that can help you determine what to look for in a project or certification. One such tool is the NATIONAL INITIATIVE FOR CYBERSECURITY CAREERS AND STUDIES (NICCS) Cyber Career Pathway Tool (NICCS, 2022).
